The north end of the Upper Boat section of the Taff Trail snakes through a more built-up area on its way up to Pontypridd and Ynysangharad Park.

If you're heading north on a bike you'll meet the first of the speed control measure gates here. These gates certainly work for those with wider handlebars to the point that you might have to actually dismount and angle the handlebars so you can squeeze through.
